New Interim Executive Director on August 1. The Sumatanga Action Team has employed Daphne Orr as Interim Executive Director to partner with the Action Team as we cultivate a regeneration of Camp Sumatanga. Action Team member and former Interim Executive Director Mike Byrne has agreed to volunteer his time and expertise temporarily as we transition leadership.
Methodist Summer Camp. We had successful Traditional Methodist Summer Camps! Sumatanga hosted approximately 600 campers for the Traditional Methodist Camps. If you have not done so already, please visit the Camp Sumatanga web sites to see wonderful pictures and stories. As we shared previously, we recognize the hours of preparation, training and then execution required for a positive experience for everyone. Thank you to Laura Sisson for her leadership, the Summer Camp Design Team, the Camp Deans, Camp Volunteers, Parents and the Camp Staff.
Additional Summer Camps. Sumatanga hosted additional summer camp programs with approximately 1000 in attendance in June and July and more guests scheduled for August.
Action Team Listening Tour will be an important part of the regeneration for Sumatanga. As a new strategic planning process begins, the Action Team wants to capture and incorporate all constituents. Additional sessions will be scheduled later this quarter.
Financial Support: We have raised over 25% of the $250,000 goal set by the Action Team for immediate needs and additional pledges have been made. Incoming gifts continue from individual families, churches and Districts. Thank you!
The Summer operating funds have remained sufficient to support all Summer activities. The new funds held at the Conference are directed by the Action Team in consultation with the Camp Staff.
We are progressing at a measured pace as we assimilate available information and focus on current activities while maintaining a long-term view. We continue to ask for your patience, constructive input, prayers and financial help as we do our work. The Action Team remains optimistic about Sumatanga’s future.
