Message from Bishop Wallace-Padgett: District Days 2019

7/16/2019

Dear Friends,

Family gatherings are great when everything is going well, everyone is getting along and positivity abounds. However, sometimes the most meaningful and growth-producing experiences occur when family get-togethers take place in the midst of dicey and challenging dynamics.

Our United Methodist family is struggling right now, especially in the United States. On one hand, this makes Conference events and District gatherings challenging. On the other hand, it causes them to be opportune times for us to grow and mature, both as individuals and also as a community. Our part is to show up; God does the rest.

This is one of the reasons that I look forward to being in the Districts this fall for evening worship services focusing on the theme “Show up, Grow Deep and Reach Out.” All clergy and laity are invited to the worship service sponsored by your District.

The evening services planned by District operational teams will include:

  • Music led by musicians from within the District;
  • The sharing of glory sightings about the development of new churches/Fresh Expressions and Celebrate Recovery happenings in the District;
  • An offering which will go to District new church initiatives;
  • Holy Communion;
  • and a sermon based on Luke 10:25-37.

Dates and locations for the District worship services are:

Southwest September 16 Fayette First UMC 6:30 p.m.
Northeast September 17 Center Grove UMC 6 p.m.
Central September 30 Gardendale-Mt. Vernon UMC 7 p.m.
Northwest October 1 Wesley Memorial UMC in Decatur 7 p.m.
Mountain Lakes October 7 Christ Central UMC 6:30 p.m.
Southeast October 8 Trinity Campus, Alex City First UMC 6:30 p.m.
South Central October 22 Mountain Chapel UMC 6:30 p.m.
Cheaha October 24 Talladega First UMC 6:30 p.m.

I look forward to being with many of you for worship in the Districts in September and October. Showing up to be together is a means to continuing growth and development as individual Christ-followers and as a North Alabama Conference.

As always, it is a privilege to serve as your bishop.

Blessings,
Debra Wallace-Padgett
Resident Bishop
North Alabama Conference
