“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
- Luke 4:18 -19
Priority: Ministry with the Poor
The North Alabama Annual Conference will be Saturday, September 26, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Alabama law now allows non-profit organizations to hold virtual meetings. Therefore, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the business of the Annual Conference will be conducted online in a virtual meeting format. Likewise, the Board of Ministry is planning a virtual Clergy Executive Session on Sunday afternoon, September 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The goal for the 2020 Annual Conference is to do our connectional work safely with the largest participation possible. Those who are able to participate from their local location are encouraged to do so. The Bishop, Conference Leadership Team and Annual Conference Planning Team are preparing to have satellite locations throughout the Conference area available to host Annual Conference members who do not have internet capabilities that would allow them to participate at home. Conference leadership is committed to applying the Do No Harm recommendations (www.umcna.org/donoharm) to this year’s Annual Conference meeting.
